Welcome to Year 1 - Kipper!
Welcome back to the second part of the Summer term! We hope you all had a well deserved half term break. We hope you've all had lots of fun over the holiday and we are looking forward to seeing your homework about your great days out!
A reminder that the phonics check will take place this half term commencing 15th June - 19th June. Please continue to read as much as you can with the children, and keep practicing the nonsense words and any phonics that have been sent home.
This half term our new topic is 'Where could we go for a great day out?'. This will involve planning our own great day out with the children, which we are very much looking forward to seeing where they would like to go, as well as looking at rivers, London and the Great Exhibition.
In Literacy we will start by writing reports on what we have found out about rivers as well as continuing writing short stories linked to our topic.
In Numeracy we are continuing to have a lesson at the start of each week devoted to the children's individual targets. We will be focusing mainly on number skill this half term looking at related addition and subtraction facts, including problems with missing numbers, odd and even numbers and counting in 2's 5's and 10's.
In Jasper Class, Miss Billing now has a garage role play area.
In Kipper Class, Miss Thornicroft now has a London Tourist Information role play area.
Please come in and see these exciting new additions to our classrooms!
Now that the weather is starting to get warmer children may be able to go on the field during playtimes but will need to bring a pair of welllington boots or outdoor shoes (that they are able to get muddy) that they can change into for when the grass is still damp. Please make sure children are still bringing in coats and jumpers as the weather is still unpredictable. You may also want to send in a sunhat on sunny days as well as putting sun cream on before school.
P.E. days are:
Miss Thornicroft’s: Wednesday and Thursday
Miss Billing’s: Tuesday and Thursday
It is also useful for P.E kits to be in at all times in case of extra sessions.
Please can children remember to put home school contact books in the contact trays every morning.
Alongside regular reading at home we give children weekly homework. This will need to be returned on the following Tuesday. Please help your children to complete their homework on time.
Thank you to all the parents who have helped out with hearing children read in Year One so far this year. We are still very keen to have more parent helpers. Please come and speak to us if you have any free time you would be willing to use to hear children read or have any other talents or skills that you may be able to share with the children.
Please look at our year gallery and the school gallery to see some photos of what we have been up to.
