Welcome to Summer 2!
We hope everyone had a great half term holiday. This half term our topic is ‘Where shall we go for a great day out?’ which is a Geography, History and Art based topic. For this topic we will be planning our trip which will take place later this term, once the children have decided where they are going! We will be learning about rivers and the animals that live in rivers, patterns in nature which will include learning about the artists William Morris and Georges Seurat. We will also be learning about London and planning a great exhibition of our own.
In Maths we will be learning about position and direction. We will be using words such as left, right and we will also be learning about the terms whole, half and three quarter turns. We will also be learning about place value (numbers up to 100), money and the identification of coins and also time to the hour and half hour.
Through our Maths work we will be completing problem solving activities which will include our weekly APE work (Answer it, Prove it, Explain it).
In English we will spend the first couple of weeks focusing on our phonics and blending skills of real and nonsense words in preparation for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. We will then learn about poems and will link this to the use of adjectives. We will also continue to write stories that are linked to our topic work.
As the weather is quite changeable please make sure your child has a coat in school to wear at play times and lunchtimes.
PE days are:
Kipper Class- Tuesday and Friday
Jasper Class – Thursday and Friday
Please ensure PE kits are labelled and in school at all times.
