Welcome to Autumn 2!
This half term our topic is ‘Toys, why do we play with different toys as we get older?’ and is a History and Science based topic. We will be finding out about the differences between old and new toys this will include interviewing and looking at artefacts and pictures. In Science we will be learning about our body and how we change as we grow.
In Maths we will be focusing on addition and subtraction. We will be adding two numbers together, subtracting numbers and comparing addition and subtraction statements. We will be using objects, Numicon and tens and ones and also recording, using symbols, in number sentences.
In English we will be focusing on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our sentences. We will also be learning how to use a question mark in question sentences and using adjectives to qualify the noun. We will be writing stories, using story bags to support us, and later in the half term we will be writing instructions.
We will also continue our Read Write Inc phonics sessions which take place daily. We will also be starting weekly spelling tests with a focus on the Year 1 common exception words.
As the weather becomes more changeable please make sure your child has a coat in school to wear at playtimes and lunchtimes.
Forest School will start on Thursday 9th November and all of the Year 1 children will continue to attend every Thursday for six weeks. On these days the children will need to come into school wearing their Forest School kit eg wellington boots/outdoor shoes, warm clothing eg jogging bottoms, jumper and a warm waterproof coat. They will then need to bring their school clothes to change into for later in the day (school uniform for Kipper Class and PE kits for Jasper Class).
PE days are:
Kipper Class- Monday and Tuesday
Jasper Class – Thursday and Friday
Please ensure PE kits are labelled and in school at all times.
