Welcome to Summer 1!
We hope everyone had a great Easter holiday. This half term our topic is ‘Why is water precious?’ which is a Science based topic. We will be finding out about living and non-living things and we will focus particularly on plants and pond life.
In Maths we will be continuing with our work on measuring by moving into capacity and measuring in ml. We will then be looking at multiplication and division, where we will be grouping objects and numbers and completing linked calculations. We will also be looking at fractions and we will be learning about half and quarters of groups of objects, numbers and shapes. We will also be finding out about the different types of 2D and 3D shapes. Through our Maths work we will be completing problem solving activities which will include our weekly APE work (Answer it, Prove it, Explain it).
In English we will be focusing on writing linked to our topic work so we will be finding out about a variety of different stories which are linked to the topic of water. We will be focusing on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We will also be trying to make our writing sound more interesting by using adjectives, question marks and exclamation marks. We will also be focusing on handwriting and spelling. We will be trying to apply the spelling patterns we are learning into our independent writing.
We continue our Read Write Inc phonics sessions which take place daily. We will also be continuing our weekly spelling tests and we will be sending lots of words home for the children to read to prepare them for the Year 1 Phonics Check which will be held in June.
