Teaching Assistants - Mrs Wrightson, Mrs Sampson, Mrs Higby
We hope everyone had a great holiday and is looking forward to the Spring Term. Ms Lidell is joining Year 1 as a teacher for Jasper class from the beginning of term. Mrs Foot will still be working at Wellesley Park for the first few weeks of term before she goes on maternity leave but will be mainly working out of class.
This half term our topic is ‘Stories from Around the World’ which is a DT and Science based topic. We will be learning about different stories, which will include the Gingerbread Man. We will be learning about puppets and we will use our design skills to make our own sock puppets. We would particularly welcome any donations of socks that we can use! We will also be learning about different materials and their properties.
In Maths we will be learning about place value which will include comparing and ordering numbers and also finding one more and one less. We will initially learn about numbers to 20 and then later in the term move onto numbers to 50. We will also develop our addition and subtraction skills. This will include practical work, written work and also problem solving skills.
In English we will be focusing on securing sentence writing and writing stories. This will include writing about the Gingerbread Man. We will also be developing our understanding of conjunctions (joining words) and when to use capital letters and full stops. We will also be continuing our work in Read Write Inc and developing the children's knowledge of sounds. Please come to the Phonics Meeting on Thursday 10th January at 3.30pm in the school hall if you would like more information about phonics and the Phonics Screening Check which will take place in June.
Please make sure your child has a coat in school to wear at play times and lunchtimes everyday.
PE days are:
Monday and Friday for Jasper Class.
Monday and Wednesday for Kipper Class.
Please ensure PE kits are labelled and in school at all times.
