Welcome to Year 2
Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle
Welcome to the second part of the Summer Term. We hope that you all enjoyed the half term holidays and also sports day on the last day of term. We are really proud of how well the children competed for their teams on such a hot day! We are also very proud of how hard the children worked prior to half term to complete the end of Key Stage 1 assessments (SATs) or special booklet work as we have called it! It will still be a little while before we submit the children's levels and this information will be given to you later in the Summer Term. Thank you to everyone for all of the support you have given us and the children for this.
Mrs Tiggy-Winkle: Miss Billing
Peter Rabbit: Mrs Merritt and Mr M (Thursdays)
Mrs Evans will continue to support both classes.
Both classes will have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please remember to keep PE kit in school in case we need to swap sessions.
Our topic for this half term is 'How Did Families Have Fun in The Past?' where we will be learning about the seaside.. The main focus of this topic is history and geography. We will be learning about family visits to the seaside and how these have changed over time. We will also be completing some map work with a particular focus on locating coastal areas.
In Maths we will continue to focus on the main calculations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be using practical resources, such as tens and ones, and record this pictorially in our books but we will also be moving children onto completing this mentally. We are also having a daily focus on APE work (answer it, prove it and explain it). Sometimes we complete this orally and other times the children record it themselves on a sheet to stick in their book. This is helping the children to develop their problem solving skills by helping them to think more carefully about what they are doing and to be able to explain their methods. We are also focusing on developing the children's understanding of more difficult problems, such as two step word problems.
In English we will be consolidating the children’s understanding of grammatical terms by continuing to reinforce all aspects that we have taught since the start of Year 2, with a specific focus on using apostrophes (for contractions and possessive apostrophes), using commas (in lists) and also expanded noun phrases. In addition to this we will be focusing on spelling and handwriting. We are having daily handwriting sessions to encourage the children to develop a neat and joined style. We are encouraging the children how to develop all of these skills during extended writing sessions. Our writing will link to our topic work and we will be spending some time focusing on stories linked to the seaside.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you all have a good Summer Term.
Miss Billing and MrsMerritt
Please bring to school a coat (ideally waterproof), outdoor shoes or wellington boots and a change of clothes (just a pair of jogging bottoms would be fine). It may also be useful to send in other items depending on the weather eg a scarf, hat, gloves or a sun hat.
NO FOREST SCHOOL until further notice.
